bionicgurl (Kat) used to post on diaryland quite a bit. Because of problems with amputee fetishists stealing her images, she moved over to live journal. Kat is one of those amazing people who have had a really hard life and, somehow, manages to always pull things back together and keep a fairly cheerful disposition. Her parents abused her horribly. She ran away after the eighth grade and lived with bikers and on the street. She managed to get an education and became a teacher. Then, four years ago, she was in a car wreck where she had to witness her two best friends burn to death (they were awake and screaming). Some local heros pulled her out of the wreck. She lost an arm, a leg, suffered brain damage and serious burns. It took her some time, but she recovered as well as she could and built herself a very nice life with her fiance, Dan. A couple of weeks ago (a few days after the forth anniversary of the wreck), Dan crashed his dirt bike. He suffered a C2 break. He is currently a quadrapalegic (which the doctors say is permenant) and can't breath on his own (which they are all hoping he will be able to do someday). That so called marvelous Canadian national health insurance refuses to cover his injuries. Never mind the INSANE taxes he and his family have been subjected to in the name of "free" insurance. It was a recreational biking accident, so he's not covered. When he gets out of the obscenely expensive hospital (in a year or so), he's going to need a half million dollar wheelchair and $195,000 a year in nursing. This doesn't even include doctor visits, rehab or treatment to try to repair the damage. None of this is covered. These are not wealthy people. Friends and family have set up a fund to help with expenses. There are several ways to donate to this fund. you can send money to: Dan Leblanc c/o Danica Gee 1215 Wharf Street Victoria BC V8W 1T9 CANADA or you can buy felted poo creatures from Poo People There is a paypal account set up here and they're working on setting up some Cafe Press shops. If you have any other ideas or input on raising money for Dan's recovery, or would like to read about his progress, visit his recovery live journal There's some talk about some auction fund raisers. You can get the information by commenting on the live journal. As for MY life, or lack therof... I've taken a job at the UNO book store. Working 60+ hours a week, so I haven't had much time for much of anything else. The sad part is my paychecks just disappear down the black hole that is out checking account. Beyond that, everything's pretty much same old same old.
