So, as you've probably read in every other diary on here, Joe Strummer died. This sucks. I loved the clash and many bands that followed owe much of their style to the Clash's influence. Unlike the likes of Cobaine, Joplin and Hendrix, Strummer stayed around long enough so that we know that he was brilliant. He grew to a respectable middle age and still rocked.

Enough about a subject you've probably read about a hundred or more times today.

Mom, Donald and I went looking at houses today. It was depressing. The really cute house that I LOVED had suffered so much neglect that it was literally faling down. Letting a house with that much character and class deteriorate so much should be a crime! It would cost around $50,000 just to get it livable. If we ever win the powerball, I'll probably do that. As it's listed at $80,000, has serious water, structural and foundation damage, I'm sure it will still be on the market. We did look at an ADORABLE arts and crafts cottage about 4 blocks from the apartment. The kitchen isn't really a kitchen and some of the rooms haven't had the termite damage repaired, but it's livable and I like it. There's another one on that street that seems even better than the Arts and Crafts one, is much newer (only 3 years old!) and has a pool and laundryroom, but we couldn't get in today. Lloyd (realtor) will have to spend part of his Christmas eve showing it to us. Oh, did I mention that it's $10,000 less than the Arts and Crafts house? I lacks some of the character of the other houses but, with a scroll saw and some time, I can add enough of that.

It also looks like this house thing is better than originally planned. At first, mom was going to buy a place and rent it to us. That was a good deal and the house would eventually be mine anyway. Joe was happy but not thrilled with this plan. Mom and I discussed it and now she's going to put the down payment down, get the mortgage herself and we'll pay her off land-contract style, only without the 20% down thing most Land-contracts involve. It's really not that different from the rental plan, but Joe likes it better and it would feel a lot more like OUR house.

About last night. Mother and I briefly touched on it this morning and she accepts that she has to stop drinking and may need help in doing so. We've also (silently) decided that the holidays are not the best time to get into this. So we'll talk about it more in depth at a later date. I'll also share more with you after the holiday. No reason to bum people out more than they have to be.

Tomorrow night, I should have Christmas tree and morbidly obese cat pictures to share with all you lucky kids. Hell, maybe I'll sneak a few into this entry tonight. Just to keep y'all on your toes. I happen to think that we have one of the more cool Christmas trees in the world. Cool, fake and cheap. What could be better?
